Physical Therapy - the science and art of evaluating and treating injury, disease, or impairment via physical means.
If you're like most people these days you are seeking a more permanent resolution to muscle, tendon, spine, nerve, or joint pain and not simply a temporary "band-aid" or "symptom masking" medication. Where pain relieving aides such as rubs, patches, adjustments, or drugs certainly have their place, they can be all too temporary. We often liken this approach to putting a piece of duct tape over the oil warning light in your car. Ultimately a correction of the underlying force mechanics and causal factors is needed to achieve a permanent fix and to prevent future problems.
At Meier & Marsh Physical Therapy we strive to identify the causes of your pain and/or dysfunction through comprehensive evaluation and testing. Once these causes have been properly "pin pointed", a catered treatment plan is designed and implemented. Yes, homework is almost always given!
If the cause of your symptoms stems from something that for instance is too tight you will be shown the correct lengthening and remodeling stretches for that area. If your problem is due to a compression or a "pinch" you will be shown how to decompress and "un-pinch" it. If your back for example "goes out" you will be shown how to put it "back in." Symmetry for asymmetry, stability for instability, strengthening for weakness, and de-inflammation for inflammation. The behavior of the symptoms guides both patient and therapist - decreased symptoms demonstrates that we are on the right track to your recovery. It's foolproof!
